Description
The milestone east of Michaelstow junction is a granite marker dating from the early to mid-19th century. It stands approximately 75 centimeters high and has a rectangular shape with a round arched top. The stone shows traces of white paint and is inscribed with "B / 8," indicating the distance to Bodmin, with remnants of black paint on the lettering. This milestone is significant as it remains in its original position and retains its carved inscription. It is part of the historical context of the Bodmin Turnpike Trust, established by Act of Parliament in 1769 to improve access to Bodmin, now represented by the modern B3266 road connecting Bodmin and Camelford. The milestone is designated for its intact condition and its group value with other listed milestones along this turnpike route.
