Description
The former pumping engine house and chimney of West Wheal Kitty Mine, built around 1889, is a rectangular plan structure made of killas rubble with granite quoins. It features brick arches over the main openings and some granite lintels, while the upper part of the chimney is constructed from brick. The building stands three storeys tall and has unaltered elevations. The front wall has a central doorway, while the rear wall includes a wide cylinder doorway and a window opening on each floor above. The right-hand side has four irregularly placed window openings and two smaller openings, and the left-hand side has a doorway on the right and small openings on the other floors. A 40-inch engine built by Harvey and Co in 1863 was originally moved to this site from another location and is now housed at the Science Museum.
