Description
This is a C17 house, substantially remodelled in the 18th century, situated in Churchtown. It includes the surrounding forecourt walls. The house is constructed of killas and granite rubble walls. Original features include C17 hardwood lintels with an ogee moulding over the ground floor openings. The roof is covered in dry slate, with a taller gable end to the left and a hipped end to the right. An 18th-century wooden eaves cornice, decorated with modillions, runs along the front. The original layout was likely an L-shaped plan, comprising two rooms at the front, flanking a central entrance hall, which probably led to a stair wing and a service wing at a right angle behind the right-hand side. The front was likely originally symmetrical with five windows, though in the 18th century, three first-floor windows were blocked, and a new window opening was created on the right. The ground-floor openings have remained unchanged since the 18th century. The central doorway has a six-panel door, accompanied by a wooden porch with panelled reveals and a triangular pediment supported by consoles. Latterly, the windows have been replaced with four-pane horned sashes, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
