Description
Oddfellows Hall is a hall built in 1880 by the Launceston architect Charles Pearse Wise. The building features an inscription on the porch and a plaque that reads "MU2 OOF 4873 ROYAL UNITY LODGE LAUNCESTON." It is constructed of brick with stucco quoins, strings, cornices, hoodmoulds, and other decorative details, topped with a dry slate roof that has a pediment at the front end. The hall has a rectangular plan and is designed in an eclectic style. It stands two storeys tall with a symmetrical entrance front that has two windows. There are four steps leading up to a central round-arched doorway, which is flanked by nook shafts and has a corbelled gabled hood. The original features include panelled doors and round-arched two-pane hornless sash windows beside the doorway, with quatrefoils above, all adorned with hoods that have pendants. The building also has a panelled pediment with brackets beneath the lower cornice, pseudo machicolations on the upper cornice, and fluted round-arched kneelers. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
