Description

ALTARNUN SX 17 NE 6/3 Dairywell Farmhouse

  • II

Farmhouse. Circa early C19. Possibly with earlier origins. Stone rubble with large granite quoins. Rag slate roof with gable ends. Stone rubble end stacks with brick shafts. Plan: Double depth plan with central entrance. Two principal rooms to front heated by end stacks with dairy and back kitchen to rear. It is possible that the house was originally of single depth plan and that the sevice buildings across the rear are a later extension. Exterior: Two-storeys. Symmetrical 2-window front. Central entrance with stone- rubble lean-to porch with slate roof and probably early C20 4-panel door. Flanked by two late C19 or C20 2-light casements. Two late C19 or C20 casements on first floor. Remains of outbuilding attached on left hand end, now roofless (1987) and deteriorating with no internal features. Interior: Not inspected.
