Description

Triffle Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early 18th century, with remodeling in the early 19th century and later alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of slatestone rubble, with the front and part of the right side finished in slate-hanging and some areas rendered. The roof is slate with gable ends and features gable end stacks with brick shafts.

The building has a double depth plan, consisting of a front range that includes one large principal room on the right and a smaller room on the left, with an off-centre porch to the left. To the rear right, there is an integral two-room kitchen wing with a ridge stack that heats the kitchen. The roof over the rear service rooms is hipped and has two spans.

The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window range. On the ground floor, there are 6-pane sashes to the right and left, a porch with a flat roof that is rendered and panelled at the front, featuring a cornice and blocking course. There is also a 12-pane sash window at the front and a half-glazed 19th-century door with margin glazing to the right side, which is adorned with pilasters and a segmental head. The first floor has a central 12-pane sash window and 12-pane sashes with sidelights on either side, along with a modillion cornice and two dormers, each with hipped roofs and 15-pane sashes. The left side of the front range is slate-hung.

The rear kitchen wing has a ground floor with a 2-light casement, each light having 15 panes, supported by iron stanchions and featuring a stone cambered head. The first floor has a 6-pane sash window with a stone cambered head. On the right side, the front range is made of rubble at the ground floor and slate-hung above, with a 4-pane sash window at the ground floor on the left. The upper level of the rear kitchen wing is also slate-hung, featuring two 3-light casements with L hinges and a single 8-pane light at the ground floor. The first floor has two 16-pane sashes.

There is a small single-storey addition at the right end, which has a 20th-century door and is rendered, with an end stack, likely originally serving as a wash-house. At the rear, the house has three 2-light casements at ground floor, each with stone cambered heads, and on the first floor, there are two 20-pane sashes with stone cambered heads and a small single light to the left. The rear wing includes a 4-pane light at ground floor and two single lights at first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
