Lower Kergilliack Farmhouse and Wall Adjoining at Rear

Lower Kergilliack Farmhouse is a farmhouse that possibly dates from the 18th century and was remodeled and extended around the early to mid-19th century. It features painted rubble with granite sills on part of the front and slate sills on a slightly later wing. The roofs are made of dry Delabole slate and scantle slate, consisting of two parallel roofs with brick gable end stacks, extended by a hipped linking roof that has very deep eaves over the later wing on the right. The gutters are made of cast-iron in an ogee section.

The building has a double depth plan under the two parallel roofs, with a stair projection at the rear and a shallower depth one-room plan addition from the mid-19th century on the right. The original section has two rooms at the front flanking a cross passage that leads to a stair hall between two similarly sized rooms at the rear, which may be part of the original house. The left-hand rooms are wider. The wall adjoining at the rear has a semi-circular projection and is believed to have been built when French prisoners of war were housed at Kergilliack during the Napoleonic Wars.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an overall four-window south front. The older three-window front on the left has a doorway to the right of the middle, featuring a 19th-century six-panel door. The ground floor has early 19th-century hornless sashes with glazing bars, while the first floor has later six-pane horned sashes. Cambered arches are present over the openings. The wing set back on the right includes a doorway with an old pair of glazed doors and an overlight, along with a blind window opening above. The right-hand wall of the wing is a two-window garden front with original twelve-pane hornless sashes and old shutters on the ground floor openings. The interior has not been inspected.
