Description

Gwarder Farmhouse is a farmhouse that possibly dates back to the 18th century and was remodeled and extended in the 19th century. It is constructed from granite and killas rubble with granite dressing, featuring rubble arches over the main openings. The roof is a grouted scantle slate with gable ends over the original range, which includes a rubble lateral stack on the front wall to the left. The rear wing has a dry Delabole slate roof, and there are rendered (probably stone) stacks over the front end and the rear gable end.

The farmhouse has an irregular T-shaped plan, with the original two-room range at the entrance front, an entrance hall between the rooms, and a two-room deep 19th-century wing added at right angles behind the left side of the middle. A single-storey dairy is located in front of the left-hand side, while the reception rooms are situated in the rear wing.

The building is two storeys tall, and its elevations have remained unaltered since the 19th century. Segmental arches are present over the openings. The northeast entrance front features a central doorway with a window to its right, which has a 19th-century six-pane door and overlight, along with zinc gauze on the window. The entrance front rooms, likely a kitchen on the left and a large pantry or dairy on the right, are illuminated by windows in the gable ends. The 19th-century windows include a 12-pane two-light casement over a latticed ventilated window on the right-hand end and 12-pane hornless sashes on the left-hand end. The left-hand wall of the rear wing has a two-window garden front with a wider ground floor window opening, featuring 19th-century 12-pane sashes over 18-pane sashes with sidelights. The front dairy wing contains a presumably 18th-century two-panel door. The interior has not been inspected.
