Description

Lemon Lodge is a villa dating from 1818, constructed by John Chappel, who is described as a labourer. It is built of stucco over rubble, with an asbestos slate roof concealed behind a parapet. The design follows a double-depth plan, featuring a central entrance hall between two reception rooms, each with a canted bay at the front. The villa is two storeys high and displays a symmetrical fenestration pattern of 1:1:1 over a three-window range. A central elliptical-arched doorway is topped by a distyle Tuscan portico and contains a six-panel door and a spoked fanlight. The exterior features a plinth, a mid-floor string, a moulded cornice running beneath the parapet and over the flanking canted bays, and key blocks above the flat arches of the original hornless sash windows, which feature glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest.
