Description
Treglistian Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 18th century. It features coursed faced granite rubble at the front, while the rest is made of painted rubble. The roof is steep, hipped, and covered with grouted scantle slate, sweeping lower over a rear outshut. The front has a modillioned eaves cornice. The building has a double depth plan with two rooms at the front on either side of an entrance hall that leads to a projecting stair tower and service rooms in integral outshuts on both sides.
The exterior includes a later lean-to on the left-hand side. The farmhouse is two storeys plus an attic over a basement, with a nearly symmetrical three-window west front and a doorway centrally located. The entrance features an 18th-century six-panel door with later glazed top panels. The windows are late 19th-century four-panel horned sashes in their original openings. At the rear, there is a tall central stair tower topped with a hipped roof.
Inside, the farmhouse is virtually unaltered since it was built and retains many original features, including some moulded ceiling cornices, moulded dado panelling, and niches in the left-hand parlour. It has four-panel doors with two small panels under the lock rail and large panels at the top and bottom. The dog-leg closed-string stair has column-turned balusters and a moulded handrail with square newel caps. Some window shutters are present, along with heavy ceiling beams in the rear rooms, and the roof structure is likely original, although it has not been inspected.
