Description
Wheal Alfred Farmhouse is a farmhouse and adjoining cottage that has been combined into one house, dating from around 1800. The front of the house features slate hanging, while the rest is made of painted rubble. It has a grouted scantle slate roof that slopes lower at the rear, with brick chimneys located at the gable ends and over the party wall on the left, as well as an external stack on the far left.
The building has a double depth plan with an integral rear outshut. The house on the right contains two rooms at the front, with a former central entrance hall now part of the right-hand room since the early 19th century. There is a stair hall behind this, flanked by shallow service rooms. The main doorway is now the former back doorway, located to the left of the stair. The cottage on the left, likely added in the early 19th century, has a one-room plan with a former entrance lobby on the right.
The exterior is two stories high with an overall four-window front that is symmetrical, featuring three windows that are slate-hung. The former central doorway is flanked by the cottage on the left, which has one window above the doorway. The door is from the 20th century, and the windows are late 19th-century four-pane horned sashes.
Inside, there is a mix of carpentry and joinery from around 1800 and the early 19th century, including early 19th-century window shutters in the right-hand room. The interior has seen little alteration since its construction.
