Description
Post Box Cottage is a small house that was originally two separate dwellings, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with an extension added around the mid-19th century. The building features slurried rubble with cob on the upper floor of the original house on the left, and it has a dry Delabole slate roof with brick chimneys—one over the gable end on the left and another over the hipped end on the right. It is likely that the house was originally thatched.
The layout consists of a two-room plan for the original house on the left and a later one-room plan cottage on the right. The house has a central lobby entrance, while the cottage has its lobby entrance on the left. The plan may have been remodeled in the 20th century.
The exterior is two stories high, with an overall four-window front facing southeast. The original house on the left has a symmetrical three-window front with a central doorway, and the cottage on the right has a regular one-window front. The doors are 20th-century replacements in the original openings, and the windows are 20th-century 12-pane casements, likely imitating former windows. The interior has not been inspected.
