Description
The Old School House, dating from 1876, has been converted into a house and is accompanied by quay walls, which likely date back to the 18th century. The building is constructed from roughly coursed faced Killas with granite dressings. The quay walls consist of vertically set Killas rubble topped with horizontally-coursed Killas rubble. The roof is made of dry Delabole slate, featuring fish scale courses and slates on the projecting verges. There is an external stone lateral stack on the rear wall.
The structure has a rectangular schoolroom layout with a projecting gabled bay at the front left, a gabled porch at the rear right, and an earth closet with a lean-to store at the rear on the right-hand side. It is designed in the Tudor Gothic style. The southeast front has a one-and-a-half bay layout, featuring a projecting gable-ended bay with a chamfered three-light mullioned window on the left and a two-light mullioned window on the right. Each gable end has a central four-light mullioned window, and the rear wall includes similar three-light and two-light windows. The porch has a two-light window in its rear wall and a chamfered doorway on its side wall.
The school is situated on a quay that serves as its playground, with the quay having walls on three sides topped with square-edged granite copings. This school replaced an older school located at Glendurgan, Durgan, which was built for Alfred Fox and his wife Sara.
