Description
This is a house located next to Fairfield in Boscastle, possibly built in the 18th century and remodeled in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble with a slate roof that has a hipped end on the left and a gable end on the right. The house features a projecting stone rubble end stack with a brick shaft on the left and a stone rubble and brick end stack on the right.
The original plan was likely altered; it was initially designed with two rooms and a central entrance. In the 19th century, a one-room wing was added to the rear right, and later in the late 19th century, the eaves of the main range were raised to create an attic storey. In the mid-20th century, the ground floor layout was modified, with a new entrance added on the left leading directly into a chamber, and partitions removed to create a large room on the right, which is heated by a gable end stack.
The house is two storeys tall with an attic and has a regular two-window front. The ground floor features a four-panel door on the left and two 19th-century four-pane sash windows to the right. The first floor has three 19th-century four-pane sashes with dressed stone flat arches and moulded keystones. The attic storey, likely added in the late 19th century, includes two 19th or 20th-century four-pane sashes in half dormers with raking roofs. The left-hand side elevation has a blocked opening on the first floor.
The interior is not accessible, but there is a 19th-century chimneypiece in the front room on the right. This house is part of a picturesque group in Fore Street, Boscastle.
