Description

FORRABURY AND FORE STREET (east side), Boscastle SW 0990 MINSTER

7/40 House adjoining Fairfield to north GV II House. Possibly C18, remodelled in mid C19. Rendered and painted stone rubble. Slate roof with hipped end on left and gable end on right. Projecting stone rubble end stack with brick shaft on left and stone rubble and brick end stack on right. Plan probably altered; originally of two room and central entrance plan. In circa possibly circa C19 a wing of one room plan was added to rear right and in circa late C19 the eaves of the main range were raised to accommodate an attic storey. In circa mid C20 the ground floor plan was altered, an entrance was inserted on the left leading directly into a chamber and the partitions were removed to form a large room on the right heated by a gable end stack. 2 storeys and attic. Regular two window front. Ground floor with 4-panel door on left and two C19 4 pane sashes to right. First floor with three C19 4-pane sashes with dressed stone flat arches and moulded keystones. Attic storey probably added in late C19 with two C19/C20 4-pane sashes in half dormers with raking roofs. Left hand side elevation with blocked opening in first floor. Interior not accessible. C19 chimneypiece in front room on right. Forms part of picturesque group in Fore Street, Boscastle.
