Description
Rosewarren is a house located on the west side of Fore Street in Boscastle, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed from rendered and painted stone rubble and cob, topped with a rag slate roof featuring gable ends. There is a stone rubble axial stack near the center of the building, which has a brick shaft.
The original layout of the house has been altered, and it is uncertain how it was originally arranged. It may have been divided into two one-room cottages; the left cottage likely had an end stack for heating and a blocked entrance on the right, while the right cottage was heated by the axial stack and had an entrance to the right that originally served the adjoining property, Moss Rose.
The building is two stories tall and has an asymmetrical front with two windows. On the ground floor, there is an early 19th-century 12-pane hornless sash window and an early 18th-century 12-pane sash window with thick glazing bars in a blocked opening. To the right, there is an 8-pane window, a plank door, and a 19th-century 4-pane sash window. The first floor features a 19th-century 2-light casement window and a 19th-century 3-light sliding sash window. The exterior remains unaltered, showcasing a reused early 18th-century sash window. Rosewarren is part of a picturesque group of buildings in Fore Street, Boscastle.
