Description
Moss Rose is a house located on the west side of Fore Street in Boscastle, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble, topped with a bitumen-coated rag slate roof featuring gable ends. There is a stone rubble stack on the right-hand gable end. The building has a lower range set back on the right, also made of stone rubble and with a rag slate roof and gable ends. The original layout of the house has been altered, making it difficult to determine its original arrangement. The structure consists of an overall two-room plan; the left part may be the lower right room of a house or terrace now known as Rosewarren, while the right part, which is set back, is likely an 18th-century one-room plan addition with an entrance on the left. The house is two storeys high with a one-to-one window front. The main range features a 19th-century two-light sliding sash window on the ground floor and a 19th-century six-pane sash window above. The set-back range on the right includes a four-panel door and a 19th-century casement window with glazing bars. The interiors are not accessible. Moss Rose is part of a picturesque group in Fore Street, Boscastle.
