Description

Townsend Cottage and Blue Cottage are two adjoining houses built around the early to mid-18th century. They are constructed from slatestone rubble, which is partly painted, and feature an asbestos slate roof with a brick axial chimney and brick chimneys over large external gable breasts. Townsend Cottage, located on the left (south), originally had a one-room plan but has been altered to a two-room plan. Blue Cottage has a two-room plan with a central entrance. The buildings are two storeys high.

The original three-window front has been modified to include four windows. Townsend Cottage features a four-pane, two-light casement window, which was inserted around 1900, located above and to the right of the doorway. The remaining windows are wide, ten-paned horned sashes in their original openings. The entrance to Townsend Cottage is on the right, set within a gabled glazed porch that has a four-panel door. Blue Cottage has a nearly symmetrical front with a central doorway located within a small 20th-century gabled porch that features a top-glazed door. Inside Blue Cottage, there is a large fireplace that includes a cloam oven.
