Description
The fountain and pond walls in Morrab Gardens, Penzance, date from the late 19th century and are made of cast iron. The fountain features a large pedestal base adorned with relief friezes depicting scallop shells, starfish, and festoons of sea shells. At the corners, there are dolphins, and between them, cherubs ride turtles that spout water. Above this, a large gadrooned basin supports a smaller basin topped with a globe, on which an otter holds a fish in its mouth. The fountain is set in a shallow pond that is surrounded by a low wall made of small granite boulders. Morrab Gardens were established in the grounds of Morrab House, which is listed as grade II, following a design competition won by Reginald Upcher of London in 1889.
