GV II

A Late-C19 guide post of local stone; roughly rectangular with a flat domed head. It measures approximately 1m high and 0.50m across. One face is deeply incised with capital letters 8cm high. The inscription reads: LISKEARD/3

HISTORY: The milepost was erected circa 1880. It is one of a series marking the route from Liskeard to Launceston. It appears on the Ordnance Survey map of 1888. SOURCES C. Haines, Marking The Miles, A History of English Milestones (2000) p 25

REASON FOR DESIGNATION DECISION The guidepost is designated at Grade II, for the following principal reasons: * It survives intact in its original location. * It has good group value with a number of other listed guide posts marking the route from Liskeard to Launceston. * It reflects the early development of historic road use.
