Description

Trenewth Farmhouse is a circa 1840 farmhouse constructed of slatestone rubble with granite dressings, partially slate-hung. It has a hipped slate roof with crested ridge tiles and rendered stacks to the sides, and to the rear gable ends of the service rooms. The building follows a double-depth plan, with the main entrance positioned off-centre to the right, a larger principal room to the left, and a smaller principal room to the right, each heated by an end stack. A stair hall is centrally located to the right of the entrance, with a service room projecting to the rear right and featuring a side stack. To the rear left are a small, unheated central room, and a larger end room heated by a gable end stack. A single-storey scullery/wash house at the rear serves as a porch entrance to a kitchen located to the rear left.

The two-storey, asymmetrical front façade has three windows, with a gabled bay to the right which is slate-hung. A doorway is situated off-centre to the right, featuring a 4-centred arched chamfered granite surround with recessed spandrels containing roundels; the door itself is plain with a glazed panel and strap hinges. There is a 16-pane sash window to the right and a pair of 12-pane sash windows to the left. The first floor has three 12-pane sash windows. The right side of the building is slate-hung to the left of the external, weathered stack, and a single light is located to the right on the ground floor, while a large 9-pane stair light with wooden ovolo-moulded glazing bars is on the first floor. The rear kitchen wing projects to the right, with a side stack and a single-storey C20 lean-to. The left side of the front range has an 8-pane sash window at both ground and first floor, with an external weathered stack to the left. The rear service wing to the left has a single light and an 8-pane sash window to the right, and two 12-pane sashes to the left on the ground floor; the first floor has two 12-pane sash windows and an end stack. The rear wing to the right features an attached single-storey scullery/wash house with a gable end and a small C20 lean-to. The inner side of the scullery/wash house has a plain door and a 3-light, 8-pane casement with L hinges. The rear of the kitchen to the left has 12-pane sash windows to the ground floor, a 3-light and a 2-light casement at first floor, all windows with granite lintels. The interior was not inspected.
