Description

Stanton Farmhouse is a mid-19th century farmhouse that has been converted into a house, with some later alterations. It is constructed from slatestone and granite rubble, with a painted front. The slate roof features ridge tiles and gable ends, with rendered stacks on the left and slate-hung on the right. The building has a double depth plan, with a central entrance leading to principal rooms on the front left and right; the right room was originally the kitchen and the left room served as the parlour. There is an unheated dairy at the rear left and a scullery at the rear right, with a stairwell located at the rear center.

The exterior is two storeys high, set on a plinth with a band course, and has a symmetrical three-window front. The first floor features a central 12-pane sash window flanked by sidelights, and the central gabled porch has a triangular-headed outer opening with a 12-pane sash and sidelights. On the right side, there is a 16-pane sash window on the first floor. The left side is painted and has an external stack; the ground floor to the left includes a single light window for the dairy, while the first floor has a 16-pane sash. The rear wall steps forward to the left bays, featuring a 16-pane sash and a door leading to the scullery. To the right, there is a two-light 10-pane casement window with L hinges lighting the stair at the upper level, and a 16-pane sash with a granite lintel at the ground floor.

Inside, the central entrance hall has a dog-leg stair leading to the rear. The kitchen on the front right includes a roughly hewn granite lintel above the fireplace, with an oven to the left. The dairy at the rear left has a slate floor and slate shelves.
