Description

Trenouth Mill is a watermill with an attached house, dating from the mid-18th century, with few later alterations. It is constructed of granite rubble and features a hipped slurried slate roof with ridge tiles. The roof has a gable end at the rear of the house, which includes a gable end stack with a rubble shaft and cornice.

The layout consists of the mill house at the front and the mill at the rear. The mill is a three-storey structure with a leat running along each side, although the water courses appear to have been altered. A lean-to has been added to the right side, which may conceal the wheel pit. The interior of the mill is not accessible, and the roof is missing. The house has a two-room plan, with a central entrance through a porch and rooms on either side, each heated from a rear central stack.

The exterior of the mill house is two storeys high and built into the bank, with a basement on the right side. It has a symmetrical two-window front. The first floor features two 2-light casements, each with eight panes and L hinges. The ground floor has a central porch with a hipped roof and a plain door to the side, along with a 2-pane light at the front, and a 2-light casement with a granite lintel to the right, as well as a 16-pane sash window. The right side has two doors and a central 2-light casement, all with cambered greenstone heads at the basement level; the ground floor includes a 16-pane sash with a granite lintel and a 12-pane sash with a cambered greenstone arch, while the first floor has a 2-light casement to the right.

The mill building at the rear has a higher roof level and is extended on the right side by a one-storey lean-to with a loft and a corrugated iron roof. It features a door on the side of the mill and at the front of the lean-to, with timber lintels, and a 2-light casement at the front of the lean-to. The left side of the mill has a blind rubble wall. The rear of the mill has a half-hipped roof; the ground floor includes a 3-light casement with a timber lintel, the first floor has a 3-light casement with a cambered greenstone arch, and the second floor features a single light with a string course. There is a straight joint to the left leading to the lean-to. The interior of the mill is not accessible.
