Description
The lych gate, located about 8 metres south of the Parish Church of St James, was likely built around 1860 by Sir George Gilbert Scott, who also restored the church. It is constructed from ashlar slatestone and granite, featuring a gabled roof made of alternating courses of plain and fishscale slates, along with crested ridge tiles. The gable ends include timber lattice work. Beneath the gable, there is a tiled floor with a granite coffin rest set on a dressed freestone slab. The side walls that support the roof have slits and are adorned with chamfered granite rounded finials on the styles and strap hinges.
