Description

This stable, located about 20 metres southeast of the Church of St Crida, is probably from the early 19th century and has seen few later alterations. It is constructed of slatestone rubble and features granite steps. The roof is hipped and covered with slurried scantle slate, complete with ridge tiles.

The stable is small and rectangular, with stabling on the ground floor and a loft above, accessible via an external stair at the left end. The front of the building has no windows and displays a 20th-century slate plate attached, commemorating G. Johnstone from 1960. The left end includes a flight of 10 granite steps leading to an upper porch with a hipped roof and an inner stable-type plank door. On the ground floor, there is another plank door with a chamfered granite lintel. The right end features a louvred window for the loft, while the rear has two 2-light windows at both ground floor and loft levels, complete with shutters and cambered brick arches. Inside, wooden partitions create four stalls.
