Description
Creed House is a house, now divided into two separate dwellings, dating from the early to mid-19th century, with later 19th-century additions and some subsequent alterations. The house is constructed of stone rubble, with rendered and lined-out surfaces. It has a hipped slate roof with ridge tiles, while the rear range features a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. Chimneys are located on the sides of the main range and have rendered shafts.
The original design was a double-depth plan, featuring two principal rooms on the front facing the garden and an entrance on the right side leading to a stair hall, which likely originally included service rooms behind. In the later 19th century, a wing was added to the left side, extending into a large service area and a courtyard at the rear.
The front of the house, facing the garden, has three 19th-century 16-pane sashes on both the ground and first floors. A gabled section on the left side features a 19th-century 12-pane sash with sidelights at ground floor and a 19th-century 16-pane sash with a keystone at first floor. The asymmetrical entrance front on the right side has a late 19th-century porch with a flat roof and pilasters, a half-glazed 19th-century door with pilasters and a fanlight with radial glazing bars and margin glazing, and an 19th-century 8-panelled inner door. Above the porch is a large 19th-century 25-pane sash with a round arch and radial glazing bars. The left side of the main range has a hipped roof and a 19th-century 16-pane sash at first floor. The adjacent service wing is rendered, with a 19th-century 2-light casement, two 12-pane sashes, and a 16-pane sash on the first floor, and a 20th-century 3-light casement, a door, another 20th-century window and a 19th-century 12-pane sash on the ground floor.
At the rear, a 12-pane sash and a 20th-century door are at ground floor level, while two 19th-century 12-pane sashes are on the first floor. A two-storey service wing, set back to the right, features a 20th-century 3-light casement, a 20th-century door, a 19th-century 12-pane sash on the ground floor, and a pitched hood over the door to the left. The first floor has two 19th-century 12-pane sashes. The angle between the main range and the wing is enclosed by a small courtyard with a slatestone rubble wall, approximately 3 metres high, with slate coping and two doorways with plank doors. The end of the wing has a half-hipped roof with a 19th-century 4-pane sash at first floor and a 12-pane sash at attic level. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
