Description
The Tudor Block House is a coastal defense structure built around 1540, located in Maker-with-Rame within Edgcumbe Country Park. It is constructed from slatestone rubble and has a square plan. The building is a single storey with a roof platform that features remnants of battlements. There are doorways on two sides, one of which is a later alteration. The main doorway, facing landward, is plain and square-headed, equipped with a squint and drawbar holes. Gun ports are present on three sides of the building. A tablet installed in 1980 provides the history of the structure. The interior is notably plain. This block house is part of the Henrician defenses of Plymouth Sound and is designated as an Ancient Monument, number 315.
