Description
The French House, also known as the Orangery in the French Garden, is a summer house and plant house that dates from the early 19th century. It is rendered and features a slate roof. The structure has an octagonal central room that is flanked by flower houses. It is a single storey building with three bays on each side, canted forward in the center. The windows consist of 28-pane sashes arranged in 8/8/12 panes, and there is a parapet with recessed panels above each window. The roof includes six skylights. Inside, the central room has a coved cornice and an oval ceiling panel.
