Description

The stairway in the Italian Garden at Edgcumbe Country Park is a mid-19th century structure designed in the 16th century Florentine style. It features a triumphal staircase with five granite steps leading to a platform. This platform is backed by a rendered wall that has a central alcove containing a Roman bust, flanked by grey marble panels. Balustraded stairs rise to the left and right, returning to an upper platform that supports free-standing classical statues made from patent artificial stone. The statues include the Medici Venus, the Apollo Belvedere, and Bacchus.
