SS 2006-2106 BUDE-STRATTON UPPER WHARF, BUDE

11/221 Warehouse on the west side - of the Bude Canal about 40 metres south of Lifeboat House GV II

Warehouse. Early C19. Rubble stone now rough plastered with asbestos slate hipped roof. Large rectangular warehouse with half-hipped projecting front wing forming T plan. 3 storeys. 6-window symmetrical front with central wing to first and second floor carried on piers and projecting across wharf. Platbound at first floor level. Central ground floor entrance under wing has wide double timber doors. Timber doors into first and second floor lofts in front wing. 6 ground floor windows with segmental heads have iron stanchions and inner shutters. 6 first floor 2-light transomed windows, those at ends wider. 6 second floor windows with iron stanchions and inner shutters. Original frames similarly arranged on rear each side of 2 storey high loading bay. Interior not inspected. One of the first warehouses to be built on the Upper Wharf, known as Sir Thomas Acland's Wharf. Helen Harris and Monica Ellis, The Bude Canal, (1972), p.105
