Description

The Old Steam Laundry, now converted, was built around 1840. It is constructed of rubble stone with ashlar dressings and brick voussoirs. The roof is of ragslate, gabled, with projecting eaves and brick stacks featuring moulded brick caps. The symmetrical front, facing the canal, has a 10-bay round-headed open arcade of brick with ashlar keystones below an ashlar string course. Segmental brick arches top the windows above, which contain 20th-century windows. The right gable is timber boarded above the string course, with a large industrial brick stack in the rear right corner. This stack is corbelled and rolled, with a capping at the ridge. An attic has been converted, with 20th-century roof lights inserted. The building is part of a group of industrial structures lining the Bude end of the Bude canal.
