Cartshed At Sw629303 (North Of Clowance Barton Farmhouse)

This is a cartshed built around the early 19th century, located north of Clowance Barton Farmhouse. It is constructed from granite rubble with dressed granite quoins and features two dressed granite columns. The roof is hipped and covered with scantle slate. The building has a rectangular plan with three solid walls and is open to the south, supported by a three-bay roof that is partly carried on columns, which may have been reused. The different masonry on either side of the open front suggests that this structure is likely an adaptation of an older building. It is a single-storey structure with a three-bay open front. The tapered granite monolith columns have separate moulded bases and short extensions of caps that support a wooden wallplate bearing pads. This cartshed is an interesting feature among other high-quality farm buildings at Clowance Barton, the main farm of the Clowance estate.
