1/139 Gate piers and flanking walls, - Boldgate

GV II

Gate piers, terminal piers and linking walls at north west of Clowance House. Circa early C19. Dressed granite and granite ashlar. Symmetrical on plan with central gateway flanked by square-on-plan piers, linked on each side by cyma-on-plan walls to a square-on-plan terminal piers adjoining the roadside. The piers are granite ashlar with stepped caps surmounted by ball finials. The walls have granite copings and are ramped up towards the terminal piers. This is one of the two principal gateways piercing the approximately 4 miles long perimeter wall of the Clowance estate.
