Description
The gate piers and flanking walls at Boldgate date from the early 19th century and are located at the northwest of Clowance House. They are constructed from dressed granite and granite ashlar. The design is symmetrical, featuring a central gateway flanked by square piers, which are linked on each side by cyma walls to square terminal piers that adjoin the roadside. The granite ashlar piers have stepped caps topped with ball finials. The walls are capped with granite and ramp up towards the terminal piers. This structure is one of the two main gateways that penetrate the approximately 4 miles long perimeter wall of the Clowance estate.
