Description

This is a small house located within the grounds of the Clowance estate, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from rubble stone with dressed granite quoins, jambstones, sills and lintels. The roof is covered in scantle slate, with a hip design and a sweeping lower slope at the rear left, and over a later lean-to on the left side. Brick chimneys rise from the original side walls, and cast iron ogee gutters are present.

The house has a 2-room plan, with a vestibule and staircase situated between the rooms. The left-hand room served as a kitchen, with a small service room located within an outshut at the rear. A slightly later lean-to runs the full depth of the left side.

The south front is nearly symmetrical, with two windows and a doorway slightly left of centre. The doorway has a circa mid-20th century top-glazed door, and there are four-paned horned sash windows. An original horizontal sliding sash window remains at the rear.

The interior is said to have seen little alteration in the 20th century. It is an unspoiled 19th-century house, largely unaltered since that time, and complements the other buildings within the Clowance estate.
