Description
The Medbury chest tombs, located east of the Church of St Paul in Ludgvan, date from around 1800. The southern chest commemorates Richard John Medbury of Bowgheer, who died in 1799, along with his son Richard John, who died in 1810 at the age of 11, and the relict of Captain Richard John, who passed away in 1800 at the age of 55. The northern chest is dedicated to John Medbury, a Lieutenant of the Royal Invalids in Scilly, who died in 1800 at the age of 77, as well as George John, the son of Captain Richard John of Marazion, who died in 1801 at the age of 4, and Margaret Medbury, who died in 1819 at the age of 71. Both tombs are made of granite ashlar and feature projecting square-edged lids with inscribed slate inserts, and they are rectangular in shape.
