Description
The Stephens and Graham chest tombs and three headstones are located in Ludgvan Churchtown and date from the 18th and 19th centuries. There are two adjoining chest tombs: a small one for John Stephens, who died in 1834 at the age of 69, and a larger one for Sarah Graham and the Reverend Henry Elliot Graham, who served as Rector for 21 years and died in 1855 at the age of 62. Both tombs are made of dressed granite and feature moulded elvan lids, with later granite lids added on top. The rectangular chests are enclosed by granite kerbs that were formerly surrounded by iron railings. Among the three headstones, two are slate monoliths. The western stone commemorates Catherine Calloway, the wife of Phillip Calloway, who died in 1795 at the age of 31, while the middle stone is dedicated to Mrs. Jean James, the wife of Dr. James of London, who died in 1807 at the age of 31. The third headstone is an elvan monolith with an indecipherable inscription.
