Description
The steps, gate piers, and gates located east of the Church of St Paul in Ludgvan were likely reconstructed after the south aisle was rebuilt around the 1840s, using much 15th-century Perpendicular masonry. They are made of dressed granite and feature wrought iron gates. The design includes a grid-style layout flanked by settles that serve as piers, with a three-sided flight of steps leading up to the piers. There is a landing within the churchyard that has steps leading up to the churchyard on three sides. The gate is hung from the left-hand (south) pier, and there are iron fences above the armrests of the settles on each side of the gateway. The settles are made from reused 15th-century foiled granite blocks, and at the outer ends, they display Tudor roses in relief. The gate features roundels on the lock rail and a swagged top rail.
