Description

This is a group of two reset ledger stones and one reset headstone located about 1 metre north of the north transept of the Church of St Julitta. The stones date from around 1638, 1758, and 1800. The ledger stone from circa 1638 is made of slate and is rectangular with a marginal inscription in italic script, although part of the inscription is illegible. The ledger stone commemorates Thomas, the son of Hugh and Ann Broad, who died in 1758. This stone is also slate and rectangular, featuring inscriptions in upper and lower case lettering with serifs, along with cursive script. The inscription includes a verse that reads: "Farewell dear children since thou art fled Unto the number of the dead We will no more for thee lament To see thy life of Trouble spent." The headstone for James, son of William and Elizabeth Sloggatt of Boscastle, who died in 1800, is made of slate and has a rounded top. It features an incised aedicular surround with two fluted columns and a round-headed arch, with inscriptions in upper and lower case lettering with serifs.
