Description

Clifton House is a house dating to around the middle of the 17th century. It is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble and cob, with a rag slate roof and stone rubble end stacks. The original plan likely comprised two rooms and a cross or through passage, with a larger hall kitchen heated by an end stack on the left, and a smaller parlour heated by an end stack on the right. A 20th-century extension was added to the right-hand gable end. The front elevation presents an asymmetrical three-window facade with early 19th-century hornless sash windows. A 19th-century four-panel door is situated within a 20th-century rendered open porch to the right of centre. Sixteen-pane sashes are located to the right and left, and three further windows are placed above, their roofs breaking the eaves. A 20th-century extension, rendered and with a slate roof, is visible on the right-hand gable end. The interior was inaccessible when surveyed in 1986.
