Description

This listing describes a group of three reset ledger stones and one reset headstone located 1 metre to the west of the north transept and 1 metre to the north of the nave of the Church of St Julitta. The stones date from around 1638, 1758, and 1800.

The earliest stone, from circa 1638, is a rectangular slate ledgerstone featuring a marginal inscription in italic script, although part of the inscription is illegible. The ledgerstone for Thomas, son of Hugh and Ann Broad, who died in 1758, is also rectangular and made of slate, inscribed in upper and lower case lettering with serifs and cursive script. It includes a verse that reads: "Farewell dear children since thou art fled Unto the number of the dead We will no more for thee lament To see thy life of Trouble spent."

The headstone for James, son of William and Elizabeth Sloggatt of Boscastle, who died in 1800, is made of slate and features a rounded top. It has an incised aedicular surround with two fluted columns and a round-headed arch, with upper and lower case lettering with serifs.
