Description
This cottage, located east of Cobbledicks Cottage, dates from the 17th century and was remodeled in the late 19th century. It is constructed of rendered rubblestone and features a slate roof with gabled ends. The eaves have been raised, and the pitch of the roof altered. A large stone stack projects from the right-hand gable end, and there is a brick stack at the rear. Originally, the cottage had a three-room and cross-passage layout.
The building is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with four windows, showing an attempt to regularize the fenestration. On the ground floor, there is a late 19th or early 20th century two-light casement window without glazing bars on the left, alongside a partly glazed early 20th century panelled door that is topped by a gabled timber porch hood. To the right, there are two four-pane sash windows. On the upper floor, there are two two-light casements without glazing bars on the left and two four-pane sashes on the right. The right-hand corner of the building is chamfered.
The cottage was originally situated on the side of the old road that passed through Newbridge. There is a single-storey rubblestone store attached to the right-hand gable end. Inside, the right-hand ground floor room features chamfered ceiling beams, and a later fireplace has blocked an earlier opening. The full roof timbers from the original roof include slightly chamfered, cambered collars, with later timbers added when the pitch was altered.
