Description
The Ellis and Ellis-Pool headstones are located approximately 13 metres north of the doorway of the Church of St Erth. These two headstones date from the early 19th century. The left-hand headstone is dedicated to Thomas Ellis, who died in 1823 at the age of 68, his wife Martha, who died in 1830 at the age of 78, and their daughter Elizabeth Ann, who died in 1829 at the age of 10 months. The right-hand headstone is for Elizabeth Ellis-Pool, who died in 1835 at the age of 16, likely a member of the same Ellis family that owned The Hayle Brewery. Both headstones are made of granite and feature shaped heads with incised slate inserts.
