Description

This former smithy dates from the early to mid-19th century. It is built from stone rubble, with cob on the west gable end. The north front facing Fore Street is rendered and painted. The pitched roof is covered in Cornish slate and has plain red ridge tiles. According to the listing from 1988, it originally had at least one crested ridge tile and a brick end stack on the front roof slope to the right, both of which are now missing.

The single-storey building has a rectangular open plan with a central entrance. The former forge is believed to have been located to the right of the removed stack.

On the exterior, the north front features a central plank door, flanked by a 19th-century part shuttered window on the left and a 19th-century single-light casement window on the right. The west gable end has a small 19th-century four-light casement window, set off-centre to the right. The rear elevation was not visible.

Inside, the building has a 19th-century timber coupled rafter roof, although the ridge piece appears to have been replaced.
