Row Of 4 Monuments To The Christian And Andrew Families In The Churchyard About 10 Metres South East Of The South Aisle Of Church Of St Cubert

A row of four monuments to the Christian and Andrew families is located in the churchyard about 10 metres southeast of the south aisle of the Church of St Cubert. This group consists of three chest tombs and one obelisk, dating from the early to mid-19th century.

The tomb for John Christian, dated 1818, features a plain brick chest with a flat granite top that has a moulded edge and a rebated slate inscription tablet with well-crafted lettering, created by R. Pill from Newquay. The tomb for Jane Christian, from 1839, is designed in a Gothic style on a chamfered plinth, with plain pilasters and three recessed panels on the north and south sides, and one panel on the east and west sides, all adorned with carved trefoils and flowers. It has a flat top with a moulded edge and a raised slate inscription plate, made by F. Stephens and R. Glanville of St Dennis and Newquay.

The tomb for John Andrew, dated 1831, is constructed from granite ashlar on a moulded plinth, featuring a flat top with a moulded edge and a rebated slate inscription tablet with good lettering and an incised border. The obelisk dedicated to the Andrew family, from around the mid-19th century, has a square plinth with recessed corners and Ionic engaged colonnettes. The obelisk itself is tapered and chamfered, with bar stops at the top and base of the chamfered corners.
