Description

The Cubert War Memorial is a First World War memorial, erected around 1920, with additional inscriptions added after the Second World War and around 1980. The memorial is made of granite and features a Celtic-style cross with a tapering shaft set into a plinth, which stands on a two-stepped base. The north face of the plinth is inscribed in black painted lettering, stating: "TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY / OF THOSE FROM THE / PARISH OF CUBERT / WHO MADE THE / NOBLE SACRIFICE / IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919. / THIS CROSS / WAS GRATEFULLY ERECTED BY / THEIR FELLOW PARISHIONERS." The upper step is chamfered, and on its north side is the inscription: “LEST WE FORGET.” The names of the Fallen from both the First and Second World Wars are listed beneath this inscription, and the right (east) return includes the name of the soldier who lost his life in Northern Ireland.
