Description

Ansley Villa, located on Hayle Sea Lane, is a house that dates from around the mid-19th century and was extended in the late 19th century. The original part of the house is built from granite rubble with granite dressings on the front, while the later extension features a stuccoed front. The original section has a hipped asbestos slate roof with projecting eaves and a brick chimney on the side walls. The later wing has a hipped grouted scantle slate roof with projecting eaves, a polygonal dormer roof over central canted bay windows, and cast-iron ogee gutters, along with a brick chimney on the rear wall.

The house has a double-depth plan. The original section includes two small parlours at the front, flanking a central entrance hall that leads to a stair hall situated between shallow service rooms and a one-room plan wing, likely the kitchen, positioned at right angles behind the right side. The later 19th-century wing on the right is deeper and features two-storey bay windows at the middle of the front and the right side.

The exterior is two-storeys high with an overall four-window south front. The original house has a symmetrical three-window front with a central doorway on the left, while the taller later wing has a central two-storey bay window on the right. The original doors and windows include a two-panel door with an overlight and hornless sashes with marginal panes. The wing features horned sashes with segmentally-headed lights and a bracketed eaves cornice above. There is a similar two-storey bay window on the right-hand side wall. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to retain its original features and joinery.
