Description
A terrace of 24 similar houses built around 1830 in Truro. The construction is of roughly-coursed, dressed Killas stone with brick arches. Numbers 16 and 17 have been rendered. The roofs are generally of asbestos slate, with a dry Delabole slate roof to number 2. Brick end stacks are present, although some chimneys have been removed; cast-iron ogee gutters are found on numbers 7, 8, 16, 17, 22, and 25. The houses follow a double-depth plan, with a reception room at the front and a kitchen behind, and most include rear service wings, side entrance halls, and through-passages between numbers 9 and 10, and 16 and 17. The terrace is two storeys, with each house consisting of a two-window range. Most houses are built in pairs, with a pair of round-headed doorways centrally positioned, although some have doorways to one side. All doorways feature round-headed arches with blind fanlights; number 7 retains its original panelled door. Numbers 2, 3, 6, and 21 (first floor) have keyed segmental arches above original 16-pane hornless sash windows, which have otherwise been altered or replaced with later sashes. Numbers 5, 8, 11, 23, and 24 have 20th-century windows. Daniell Street represents one of the best and most complete examples of an early 19th-century planned terrace of small houses in the area.
