Description

This is a barn with an attached horse engine shed, located about 25 metres southeast of Sheviock Barton Farmhouse. It dates from the mid-19th century and incorporates materials from a 14th-century tithe barn. The structure is built of banded slatestone and sandstone rubble, topped with a half-hipped slate roof.

The barn features a shippon and has five ground floor openings at the front, along with a central loading door that aligns with a corresponding central door at the rear. The front includes five doorways with stone segmental heads, although two on the right are hidden by an addition. The central loading door is wide, with a segmental head and a slate hood above it. There is also a cross set in the wall at the upper left, likely from the early 20th century, and a two-light casement window.

The addition on the front right has two segmental-headed openings at ground level and a two-light casement window beneath the eaves. To the left, there is a straight joint leading to a lower addition, also constructed of banded rubble, which features a segmental-headed door and a half-hipped end roof. A six-pane light is located in the lower left end, and there is a single-storey shed attached to this end, made of rubble.

At the rear, there is a central wide door with a hood, along with a single-storey rubble lean-to on the left. Attached to the rear right is a polygonal engine shed, which has a door at one end and a window on the side. There is also a door at the rear of the lower addition to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
