Description
Cote Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with some 18th century windows remaining and 20th century alterations. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble and features a slate roof with clay ridge coping tiles. It has gable end stacks with shaped tops.
The house has a 2-room plan with a central two-storey porch, and each room is heated by a gable end stack. There is a central rear gabled two-storey wing, likely containing the stair, along with single-storey outshuts to the right and left. An attached two-storey outhouse on the right end has a slightly lower roof level and is topped with a corrugated asbestos roof. The room on the right is slightly larger than the room on the left.
The cottage stands two storeys tall. The central two-storey porch has a flat roof, which was probably originally gabled, and features a plain 20th century door and a 20th century window on the first floor. To the right, there is a 20th century window at ground level and an 18th century two-light casement window with six panes in each light on the first floor, complete with L hinges. To the left, there is a six-pane light at ground level and a 19th century two-light casement window on the first floor. The outhouse to the right includes a stable door and a six-pane light, along with a single-storey lean-to that has a door at the right end.
On the left side of the cottage, there is a wide external stack and an 18th century three-light casement window to the right, which has six panes in each light and L hinges. At the rear, the central two-storey gabled wing features an 18th century three-light casement window on the first floor, with eight small leaded panes in each light, although the left light has been replaced. It has a chamfered timber lintel. There is a single-storey lean-to in the angle to the right with a straight joint and an addition in the angle to the left, which is also single-storey and has a 20th century two-light window.
Inside, the rooms to the right and left have roughly hewn cross beams. The right-hand room contains a 20th century fireplace and features a keeping hole in the rear wall and the right end wall. The rest of the interior has not been inspected.
