Description

The building is a pair of stables located 100 meters to the west of Newton Ferrers House, dating back to 1688, as indicated by a datestone. It is constructed from coursed slate stone and features large granite quoins. The roof is made of asbestos slate with hipped ends and includes a hipped projecting wing on the southwest and a shallow projecting wing on the northwest with a gable end. There are three short brick lateral stacks that serve the accommodation above the stables on the east side.

The structure is two storeys high and originally had a symmetrical seven-window front, with a central bay that is slightly set forward. A later projecting wing on the right side obstructs the seventh bay. The ground floor has four plank doors, each with fanlights above. Additionally, two entrances have been partly blocked, with 2-light casements inserted. Above the central entrance is a heraldic shield along with the datestone from 1688. The upper level features six 2-light late 19th-century casements. On the left-hand side wall, there is a central tall round dressed stone arch with granite quoins, and dressed stone arches are present above the flanking casements and those above.

Inside, the central bay retains timber stable stalls, although the interior has only been partially inspected.
