Description
28 Green Lane is a house, now functioning as a dental surgery, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared killas with granite dressings and features a slurried slate roof and brick chimneys. The building has a double-depth, one-and-a-half unit plan with a rear extension. It stands two storeys tall and has three bays, with granite quoins at the corners and around all openings. The third bay contains a round-headed doorway with an open-pedimented Tuscan architrave, which is missing its shafts but retains its capitals and decorated entablatures, along with a dentilled pediment. The doorway features a recessed panelled and glazed door with margin panes and a fanlight showcasing elegant curvilinear tracery. To the left, there are two large four-pane sashed windows, and three more above, all with exposed boxes and raised sills. The gable ends have chimneys.
Inside, there is a wide entrance hall that leads to a geometrical staircase adorned with scrolled brackets, stick balusters, and a mahogany handrail that ends in a large and elegant wreath. The interior also features mahogany doors and moulded plaster cornices, particularly in the front ground floor room, which boasts a vine leaf cornice and a large ceiling rose, showcasing high-quality details in a house of such modest size.
